Expedia Complete Month of Caring in Exceptional Speed!

Aydarus Awow

Community Project Co-ordinator, BIG Alliance

As we welcome in a new year, we are taking the time to reflect back on a particular highlight from 2022: another successful ‘month of caring’ completed with Expedia Group. This annual volunteering focus for Expedia Group sees employees across the UK supporting their local communities during the month of September, and in Islington, this is supported by BIG Alliance. Ranging from shopping and restocking foodbanks to packaging hygiene care kits for those who need them, the lovely volunteers from Expedia worked incredibly hard in giving back to our communities in 2022.

BIG Alliance sourced a total of 26 opportunities in September 2022 for the travel experts to take part in, at locations dotted around Islington. This helped a wide variety of people from the elderly to families and children, offering support in packaging, revamping adventure playgrounds and even showcasing their technical skills and knowledge in education and skill-based opportunities.

Although we focus primarily on the positive effect the Month of Caring campaign brings to our communities, we also recognise and celebrate the positive impact it has on team bonding and relationship growth within Expedia’s internal teams. There’s no better way to bond than coming together and doing something that can improve someone’s quality of life. Here’s just a few of the comments made by some of our volunteers this year.

What did you enjoy most about your volunteering day?

  • “Meeting new people, seeing the direct impact of our efforts, helping the community organisation create a better environment.”

  • “Meeting the staff and helping a small organisation that wouldn't usually make that much progress in a day, socialising with my colleagues.”

  • “The people running the event were lovely, and we could see we'd made real progress in the garden.”

It always warms our heart to see companies like Expedia come together with our community organisations and really make a difference, and what a difference we made with a whopping 2,062 volunteering hours achieved and a total of 379 Expedia volunteers taking part this year. All we can say is thank you to everyone involved and we can’t wait for the next one.
